I don’t know about everybody else but Christmas is my all-time favourite time of the year! The run up is so exciting – it’s dark so it’s time to get out the furs and Christmas jumpers, you get to go totally OTT with decorations at home and there’s a buzz around the streets as people get their Christmas shopping finished, carol singers are out and Christmas markets spring up!

And I’m totally excited to be right in the hub of it – with tonnes to do in London! So, it may be a little early but I’ve been compiling my top things to do in London on the run up to Christmas – so you guys don’t miss out too!

I was sooooo excited to go and see a stage adaptation of one of the all-time best Christmas films ‘Elf last week at the Dominion Theatre. Like most people, I didn’t think they could top Will Ferrell’s performance but I thought it would at least get us into the Christmas spirit. As it turns out I was wrong – the actors were brilliant, the songs catchy, they delivered all our favourite lines with as much gusto as the film and they had spent a lot on make the production truly magical. Walking out of the theatre into the Christmas lights of Tottenham Court Road left me feeling a real buzz of Christmas excitement!

My next pick, Winterville at Victoria Park, doesn’t start until 26th November but I visited it last year and it’s a great alternative to the packed Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. With a relaxed but buzzing atmosphere and loads of attractions to choose from, it’s well worth a visit. You can read more of my recommendations of things to do in this area here to make a full day of it but the ice rink, comedy, cinema, circus and live shows on offer will be enough to entice you!

Fancy doing something a bit luxurious this winter, from the warmth and comfort of indoors? Why not try the ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ themed afternoon tea at One Aldwych? With a delicious and adventurous menu, this is top of my to-do list in the coming months – and it’s even a great idea for a Christmas gift!

Fancy getting your skates on and hitting the ice? There’s always loads of ice skating rinks popping up around London but the best ones are at Somerset House, Tower of London, London Eye or Canary Wharf. Or, if you head west, Hampton Court has an ice rink and also BBC Good Food are hosting a festive food fayre there – to really get you in the Christmas mood!

Explore Central London on foot and you will find lots of Christmas Markets as we head further into the festive season. Around Southbank and the London Eye there are always a cluster, and if you’re lucky, you might catch an outdoor carol service at Trafalgar Square!

To raise money for Battersea Cats and Dogs Home and get in the festive spirit, head to St Luke’s Church in Chelsea on 8th December for a Christmas Carol Concert. Have a mince pie and hear your favourite Christmas tunes whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause (I am still unclear whether there are dogs in attendance but I am optimistic!).

Still got lots of decorations to buy? Visit Harrods or Liberty London for your Christmas decoration shopping with a huge selection of festive goodies to spruce up your home! And, whilst you’re there, you might as well fall onto Oxford Street and take advantage of their late opening times to get your Christmas shopping done. If you need a bite to eat afterwards, check out my blog on Soho eats here and really make an evening of it!

If you are looking for something to do with a group of friends or colleagues, why not enter the Great Christmas pudding race? On 5th December in Covent Garden, the event raises money for Cancer Research with a hilarious scavenger hunt. Why not explore the area, don your fancy dress, get in the competitive spirit and raise money for a great cause?!

Well, there’s a few things to keep you busy in London over the next few weeks until Christmas! Share your ideas and let me know what you’ve got planned over the festive season!
