East London is a fantastic place to live, with easy access to the centre of London, beautiful green spaces on your doorstep, the shopping oasis of Westfields nearby and it still maintains its community feel! But with this area comes a few little perks – listen up East Londoners to save yourself some money exploring the area…
East London stretches as far into the centre as the City, where the Tower of London is situated. If you are a resident of Tower Hamlets you can access the attraction for £1 – all you need to do is show your Idea Store or library card, alongside your ID and proof of address, when you get to the Tower! It’s well worth a visit for its fantastic exhibitions, to see the Crown Jewels, and, last year, to see the poppy display, some of which remains at the Tower. Explore the local area for good eateries, Tower Bridge and St Katharine Docks.
Head over to the Olympic Park and visit The Orbit – with £5 off the day or annual pass if you live in an ‘E’ postcode. It’s well worth a visit for fantastic views over London, from a different angle. Best of all, there are interactive screens to tell you what you’re looking at and a little bit about it.
Only in its second year, visit Victoria Park for Winterville from 26th Nov until 23rd Dec. There will be an ice rink, fairground rides, markets and crazy golf if you turn up on the day. If you plan in advance though, you can catch some cabaret, club nights, comedy, musical bingo, live music, the circus, panto and film screenings. Find out what discounts are being offered to local residents here.
Fancy a visit to the cinema? Get down to Rich Mix and pay only £5 to see the latest box office or international cinema offering on Monday and Tuesday or visit Genesis and pay only £4 on a Monday (for anyone, not just East Londoners!).
Whether you’re an East Londoner or not, these attractions are all worth a visit – as is the area itself. So, why not take a trip East this autumn and see what all the fuss is about!
