London is full of grand and beautiful, tucked away theatres, showing both new and legendary productions every night. So why can’t the film watching experience in London be more than your average Odeon too?!

Well… it can! I’ve put together a selection of my favourite spots for catching up on the latest box office hit – in style.

My first pick is Genesis. A small community run cinema in Whitechapel, this place is a gem. The cinema has a few normal screens, but it also has ‘studio 5’ in which you can watch your film from a sofa, with a table for your snacks, a foot rest, a store for your bags – and even blankets so you can get super cosy! The room even has its own bar, so you don’t have to miss the film whilst running for a drink. The best part is, a ticket to ‘studio 5’ is still less than your average big-brand cinema ticket. The cinema uses its biggest screen for other events too, such as free poetry slams and comedy nights! If you’re just passing by, they open up the front of the building into a little café and there is a bar tucked away upstairs!

My second one (best reserved for a clear day) is the Rooftop Cinema Club. There are a few scattered around London – such as Stratford, Shoreditch and Kensington – showing both newer and well-known classic films. The films start at sunset, giving amazing views over London, and you can snuggle down in your deck chair with a blanket and your headphones to enjoy the film! You can sign up on their site for a membership card, too, where they let you know about upcoming Secret Cinema Club viewings.

During the summer, there are a plethora of outdoor cinema pop-ups in London parks, but one of my favourites is the one in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens as it’s a lovely park and the viewings are free, so you don’t need to plan it in advance. If you get there a little early, you can hire yourself a deck chair, but it’s as much fun to take a picnic, some prosecco and a blanket! On their last cinema night of the season, they do an online vote to let the public pick the last film!

My final pick is the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. With viewings of cult film, favourites (i.e. Frozen!) and with film marathons (i.e. Disney, James Bond, Lord of the Rings) this is a great cinema for something a little different. This is the sort of venue where the audience are encouraged to get dressed up and involved in the show – and it’s a lot of fun. If this really is your scene, you can get a membership card to have discounted tickets – it’s definitely worth checking out!

Of course there are loads of quirky ways to get your film fix in London, but these four are really great ways to try something a little different, great for doing as a group and a lovely way to really immerse yourself in London life and what the big smoke has to offer!
